Medieval Authors: Thomas of Ireland

Back to list of authors

Thomas of Ireland (c. 1270 - c. 1340) is also known by his Latin name, Thomas de Hibernia or Thomas Hibernicus. He is best known for his popular contribution to the florilegium genre, the Manipulus Florum. With the internet itself a sort of garden from which to harvest information, it is appropriate that the Manipulus should be receiving significant scholarly attention in a website which is the brainchild of Prof. Chris Nighman. Modestly stating that the site builds on the 1979 monograph by Richard and Mary Rouse, it actually provides (at present) the Latin text of just under half of this magnum opus, as well as useful ancillary materials.
